History & culture
Wildlife
The Wuling area supports rich wildlife, including Reeves's muntjac, wild boar, yellow-throated martens, and white-faced flying squirrels. Birdwatchers may spot Taiwan blue magpies, Swinhoe's pheasants, Mikado pheasants, and Taiwan yuhinas, while butterflies such as the Broad-tailed Swallowtail add seasonal highlights.
Plants
The trail climbs from warm temperate forests to subalpine landscapes, passing mixed broadleaf and conifer forests of Taiwan cedar, hemlock, spruce, and fir. Near the summits, Yu shan cane grass, creeping juniper, and alpine rhododendrons dominate, reflecting the dramatic elevation change across Shei-Pa National Park.
Geology
The Wuling Sixiu lie within the Xue shan Range, where ancient sandstone and slate formed over 23–40 million years ago. Pintian Cliff showcases rare folded rock formations created by tectonic uplift, offering one of Taiwan's most remarkable geological landscapes.
